About
HexArena is designed, built, and operated by one person, Matej Strnad.
One accountable project
I am Matej Strnad. I design HexArena, I build it, and I operate the servers it runs on. There is no studio behind the name and no team to point to, and the site never pretends otherwise. One person is accountable for the game, and that is the point: what ships is what I decided to ship, and the record of it is public.
Where it came from
Development started in 2022, but the idea is older. It began with Hexagor in 2016, the first game in the line and the predecessor to HexArena Classic. Next came HexArena Classic in 2019, the original 2D version and the direct predecessor to the HexArena I build today. Each shared the same core idea: a strategy game played out on a hex map. The current HexArena is the continuation of that lineage, rebuilt with what the earlier work taught me rather than a break from it.
The dated record
The public record starts later than the code. Development began in 2022, but the first dated public release is version 0.1.0 in July 2023. Since then the Changelog has grown to 44 dated releases, and the current version is 0.14.5.
Those figures are not written here by hand. They are read from the same Changelog source the Release Record uses, so this page and the record can never disagree. I do not promise a release cadence; the record simply shows what shipped and when.
How it runs today
HexArena is free to play in the browser. I keep the servers running, respond to what players report, and keep building. If you want to reach me or read exactly what has shipped, the links below are the direct routes.
