Short description

HexArena is a free browser strategy game. Build an economy, raise armies, and take territory from other players or bots on one hex map, in matches of up to 15 minutes. Designed, built, and operated by solo developer Matej Strnad since 2022.

Extended description

HexArena is a free strategy game that runs in the browser. You start on an island, turn owned ground into an economy of gold, wood, stone, and food, raise armies from your buildings, and push directional attacks across a hex map to take territory. A match holds up to six combatants and lasts up to 15 minutes: win by outlasting everyone, or by holding the most connected territory when the timer ends. Opposition is other players when they are around, and bots otherwise.

HexArena is designed, built, and operated by Matej Strnad, working alone, since 2022. It follows a line of hex-map games: Hexagor in 2016, the predecessor to HexArena Classic; then HexArena Classic in 2019, the original 2D version and the predecessor to the current HexArena. The game is still unfinished and carries no promised launch date; a public, dated Release Record has tracked shipped changes since July 2023 and stands as the checkable record of the project's progress.

Creator and project history

I am Matej Strnad, and I make HexArena alone. It follows a line of my own hex-map games: Hexagor in 2016, the predecessor to HexArena Classic; then HexArena Classic in 2019, the original 2D version and the predecessor to the current HexArena. All share the same idea of economy, armies, and connected territory on one hex map. I have shipped HexArena in the open since 2022, and the Release Record is the dated proof of that work.
